Published: 10/14/2026 (10/14/2026, 15:01:28 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: sahlberg
Product: libsmb2

Description

libsmb2 through 6.2 contains a heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability in smb2_decode_file_fs_volume_info and smb2_decode_file_fs_attribute_info that allows malicious SMB servers to read past reply buffers. Attackers controlling a server or intercepting unsigned sessions can send crafted QUERY_INFO replies with missing or oversized name lengths to crash the client.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-110713 is a heap out-of-bounds read vulnerability in libsmb2 through version 6.2. The issue exists in the smb2_decode_file_fs_volume_info and smb2_decode_file_fs_attribute_info functions, where crafted QUERY_INFO replies with missing or oversized name lengths can cause the client to read past the bounds of reply buffers. This vulnerability can be triggered by attackers controlling SMB servers or intercepting unsigned SMB sessions, leading to client crashes.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can cause client applications using vulnerable libsmb2 versions to crash due to out-of-bounds memory reads. This may result in denial of service conditions. There is no indication of code execution or data disclosure beyond the out-of-bounds read.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, avoid connecting to untrusted SMB servers or using unsigned SMB sessions with vulnerable libsmb2 versions.
