Published: 10/21/2026 (10/21/2026, 08:03:26 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Eclipse Foundation
Product: Eclipse OpenJ9

Description

Eclipse OpenJ9 versions from 0.8.0 up to but not including 0.63.0 contain a vulnerability in the JITServer component that allows unauthenticated remote attackers or malicious JITServers to cause denial of service. This occurs due to improper boundary checks during protocol message and reply handling, leading to out-of-bounds heap reads and immediate crashes of the JITServer daemon or client JVM process via segmentation faults.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-110938 is a high-severity vulnerability in Eclipse OpenJ9's JITServer component affecting versions >=0.8.0 and <0.63.0. The flaw arises from improper boundary checks during protocol message and reply handling, enabling unauthenticated remote attackers or malicious JITServers to send malformed network payloads that trigger out-of-bounds heap reads. This results in segmentation faults (SIGSEGV) that cause immediate denial of service by crashing the JITServer daemon or the client JVM process.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in denial of service by crashing the JITServer daemon or client JVM process through segmentation faults caused by out-of-bounds heap reads. There is no indication of code execution or data corruption beyond the crash. The vulnerability requires no authentication and can be triggered remotely.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a patch is available, restrict network access to the JITServer component to trusted sources to prevent unauthenticated remote exploitation.
