Published: 10/21/2026 (10/21/2026, 08:00:32 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Eclipse Foundation
Product: Eclipse OpenJ9

Description

Eclipse OpenJ9 versions prior to 0.63.0 contain a vulnerability in the JITServer component where attacker-controlled fields are not properly validated during DataDescriptor message deserialization. This allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to cause an unsigned integer underflow, leading to out-of-bounds heap reads and an immediate process crash (SIGSEGV), resulting in denial of service.

Technical Analysis

In Eclipse OpenJ9 versions before 0.63.0, the JITServer component does not perform adequate cross-field validation on the _size, _paddingSize, and _dataOffset fields during deserialization of DataDescriptor messages. An unauthenticated remote attacker can send crafted network payloads that trigger an unsigned integer underflow in the methods DataDescriptor::getPayloadSize() and DataDescriptor::getNextDescriptor(). This vulnerability causes out-of-bounds heap reads and immediate process crashes (SIGSEGV), leading to denial of service conditions.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability to cause the affected process to crash immediately, resulting in denial of service. There is no indication of code execution or data disclosure from the provided data.
