Published: 10/23/2026 (10/23/2026, 06:00:18 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Product: Speed Optimizer

Description

The Speed Optimizer WordPress plugin before 7.8.5 does not sanitise or escape some of its settings before outputting them in the head of front-end pages, which could allow high-privilege users such as admins to perform Stored Cross-Site Scripting attacks even when the unfiltered_html capability is disallowed (for example in a multisite setup).

Technical Analysis

The Speed Optimizer WordPress plugin prior to version 7.8.5 fails to sanitize or escape certain settings before rendering them in the head section of front-end pages. This vulnerability enables stored Cross-Site Scripting (CWE-79) attacks by high-privilege users, including admins, bypassing restrictions like the disallowance of the unfiltered_html capability. The issue affects all versions from 0 up to but not including 7.8.5.

Potential Impact

An attacker with high privileges (e.g., an administrator) can inject malicious JavaScript code that is stored and executed in the context of front-end pages. This can lead to session hijacking, defacement, or other malicious actions executed in the browsers of site visitors. The vulnerability bypasses typical WordPress capability restrictions, increasing the risk in multisite environments.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Speed Optimizer to version 7.8.5 or later where this vulnerability is fixed. No other vendor advisory information is provided, so patching to the fixed version is the recommended remediation.
