CVE-2026-111757: CWE-174: Double Decoding of the Same Data in honojs hono
Description
A vulnerability in the honojs hono Web application framework versions 4.12.4 through 4.13.10 allows unauthorized disclosure of static files protected by upstream middleware. The serveStatic component performs double decoding of a malformed percent-encoded path, causing it to bypass static prefix protections. This issue is fixed in version 4.13.11.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-111757 is a vulnerability in the honojs hono framework where the serveStatic component decodes a routed request path twice before performing a filesystem lookup. This double decoding allows a malformed percent-encoded path to bypass upstream middleware protections for static prefixes, resulting in unauthorized disclosure of static files that were intended to be protected. The vulnerability affects versions from 4.12.4 up to but not including 4.13.11. The issue does not allow traversal outside the configured static root directory. The vulnerability is fixed in version 4.13.11.
Potential Impact
An attacker can use a specially crafted malformed percent-encoded path to bypass upstream middleware protections and access static files that should be protected. This leads to unauthorized disclosure of static files within the static root directory. There is no impact on integrity or availability, and no directory traversal beyond the static root is possible.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade to hono version 4.13.11 or later where this issue is fixed. No other mitigation is required as the vendor has provided an official fix.
