Technical Analysis

The miniOrange 2FA WordPress plugin before version 6.3.1 does not properly prevent a pending passkey login from registering an additional passkey on an account that already has one configured. This improper authentication weakness (CWE-287) enables an attacker with knowledge of a user's password to add their own authenticator passkey, effectively bypassing the second-factor authentication mechanism.

Potential Impact

An attacker who has obtained a user's password can bypass the second-factor authentication by adding their own authenticator passkey to the victim's account. This undermines the security benefits of two-factor authentication, potentially allowing unauthorized access to the user's account.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the miniOrange 2FA WordPress plugin to version 6.3.1 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed. No other mitigations are indicated.
