CVE-2026-112010: Integer Underflow (Wrap or Wraparound) in icculus smpeg

Published: 10/18/2026 (10/18/2026, 12:30:26 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: icculus
Product: smpeg

Description

smpeg through 2.0.0 contains an integer underflow vulnerability in stream_header() in MPEGsystem.cpp that allows attackers to wrap packet_size by declaring an undersized packet length. Attackers can supply a crafted MPEG file opened via SMPEG_new, SMPEG_new_rwops or SMPEG_new_data to trigger a reachable assertion or out-of-bounds copy, crashing the application.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in smpeg (<=2.0.0) is an integer underflow in the stream_header() function. By crafting an MPEG file with an undersized packet length, an attacker can cause the packet_size variable to wrap around. This triggers either a reachable assertion or an out-of-bounds memory copy, causing the application to crash. The issue is exploitable by opening a malicious MPEG file through the smpeg API functions SMPEG_new, SMPEG_new_rwops, or SMPEG_new_data.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation causes application crashes due to assertion failures or out-of-bounds memory operations. This can lead to denial of service. No information is provided about code execution or data corruption beyond crashing the application.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a patch is available, avoid processing untrusted MPEG files with vulnerable versions of smpeg.
