Published: 10/22/2026 (10/22/2026, 19:41:15 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: GDATASoftwareAG
Product: motornet

Description

Motor.NET versions before 0.19.0 have a denial-of-service vulnerability. A remote attacker can crash the service permanently by sending a crafted record with a specific content-type header and missing required CloudEvent attributes. This triggers a fatal exception causing the service to enter a crash-loop on restart.

Technical Analysis

Motor.NET before version 0.19.0 contains a denial-of-service vulnerability where a remote attacker who can produce records to a consumed topic can cause a permanent crash. By sending a single crafted record with the content-type header set to application/cloudevents+json but omitting required CloudEvent attributes (id, source, type), an ArgumentException is triggered in KafkaMessageConsumer.SingleMessageHandlingAsync. This exception is treated as fatal, causing the host to stop and re-process the same poison record on every restart, resulting in a permanent crash-loop.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated remote attacker can cause a denial-of-service by crashing the Motor.NET service permanently. The service enters a crash-loop on restart due to re-processing the same malformed record, leading to service unavailability until manual intervention or patching.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, avoid processing records with the content-type application/cloudevents+json that omit required CloudEvent attributes (id, source, type).
