Source: CVE Database V5
Product: GeoDirectory

Description

GeoDirectory WordPress plugin versions before 2.8.194 contain a path traversal vulnerability that allows users with Subscriber-level access or higher to read and delete files outside the web root. This occurs because the plugin does not properly validate user-supplied image URLs used as local file paths when saving front-end listings. The vulnerability is limited to files with allowed media extensions. Exploitation results in the disclosed file being publicly accessible and the original file being deleted.

Technical Analysis

The GeoDirectory WordPress plugin prior to version 2.8.194 suffers from a CWE-22 path traversal vulnerability. It fails to validate user-supplied image URLs before using them as local file paths during front-end listing saves. This flaw permits users with Subscriber-level access or above to read arbitrary files outside the web root and delete files on the server, constrained to filenames with allowed media extensions. The disclosed file is republished at a public URL, and the original file is deleted as a side effect.

Potential Impact

An attacker with Subscriber-level access or higher can read sensitive files outside the web root and delete files on the server, limited to files with allowed media extensions. This could lead to unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information and potential disruption of service by deleting files.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in GeoDirectory version 2.8.194 and later. Users should upgrade to version 2.8.194 or newer to remediate this vulnerability.
