Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: apostrophecms
Product: apostrophe

Description

ApostropheCMS is an open-source Node.js content management system. Prior to 4.33.0, viewRole is not applied to anonymous visitors when a developer exposes user objects through a publicly rendered relationship or expressly enabled public API. Inadequately limited templates, including serialization of an entire related user object, can conditionally disclose user fields, but relationships do not automatically publish full user objects and password hashes are stored separately and are not affected. This issue is fixed in version 4.33.0.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-113653 describes an authorization flaw in ApostropheCMS before version 4.33.0. The viewRole permission, which controls what anonymous visitors can see, is not enforced when developers expose user objects through public relationships or APIs. This can result in partial disclosure of user data fields through templates that serialize related user objects. However, full user objects are not automatically published, and password hashes remain protected as they are stored separately. The vulnerability is resolved in ApostropheCMS 4.33.0.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows anonymous users to potentially access certain user fields that should be restricted, leading to information disclosure. Password hashes and full user objects are not exposed, limiting the severity to partial data leakage. There are no known exploits in the wild.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade ApostropheCMS to version 4.33.0 or later, where this authorization issue is fixed. No other specific mitigations are indicated.
