Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: apostrophecms
Product: apostrophe

Description

ApostropheCMS is an open-source Node.js content management system. Prior to 3.7.1 of the import-export module, duplicate-import continuation accepts client-controlled replacement choices without binding them to a user-owned server-side analysis or authorizing the canonical target. On an import-enabled localized type, a contributor with draft editing authority can cross the publication boundary by selecting a published document for replacement, although the current assessment is based on remediation review rather than a repeated end-to-end reproduction. This issue is fixed in version 3.7.1.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-112956 describes an incorrect authorization vulnerability (CWE-863) in the import-export module of ApostropheCMS, an open-source Node.js content management system. Before version 3.7.1, the duplicate-import continuation process accepts client-controlled replacement choices without binding them to a user-owned server-side analysis or authorizing the canonical target. This enables contributors with draft editing authority to replace published documents during import on localized types, effectively crossing publication boundaries. The vulnerability has been addressed and fixed in version 3.7.1.

Potential Impact

An attacker with draft editing privileges can replace published documents without proper authorization, potentially leading to unauthorized content modification. The vulnerability does not affect confidentiality or availability but impacts integrity. There are no known exploits in the wild.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the import-export module to version 3.7.1 or later, where this authorization issue has been fixed. No other mitigation is required as the fix fully addresses the vulnerability.
