Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: apostrophecms
Product: apostrophe

Description

ApostropheCMS is an open-source Node.js content management system. Prior to 4.33.0, the REST route GET /api/v1/<piece-type>/:_id/locales (and the equivalent page route) does not apply the publicApiCheckAsync gate that ApostropheCMS's other read routes enforce. An unauthenticated caller can therefore query this route for any document _id and learn whether the document exists and which locales it is published in — a document-existence and locale-metadata disclosure that the read-API is otherwise supposed to gate. This issue is fixed in version 4.33.0.

Technical Analysis

In ApostropheCMS versions before 4.33.0, the REST route GET /api/v1/<piece-type>/:_id/locales and the equivalent page route lack the publicApiCheckAsync access control gate that other read routes enforce. This allows unauthenticated callers to query any document _id and obtain information about the document's existence and its published locales. This exposure of sensitive metadata is classified as CWE-200 (Exposure of Sensitive Information) and CWE-862 (Missing Authorization). The vulnerability is resolved in version 4.33.0.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker can confirm the existence of documents and discover which locales they are published in, potentially leaking sensitive metadata. There is no impact on data integrity or availability. The confidentiality impact is limited to information disclosure of document existence and locale metadata.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade ApostropheCMS to version 4.33.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is necessary as the issue is resolved by the official patch.
