CVE-2026-113711: CWE-400: Uncontrolled Resource Consumption in apostrophecms apostrophe
Description
ApostropheCMS is an open-source Node.js content management system. Prior to 4.33.0 of ApostropheCMS and 3.7.0 of the import-export module, import routes invoke bigUploadMiddleware without an early authorize callback, allowing unauthenticated requests to perform upload initialization, chunk storage, temporary processing, and attacker-declared cleanup work before the later user check rejects the import. This issue is fixed in ApostropheCMS 4.33.0 and import-export 3.7.0.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-113711 describes a vulnerability in ApostropheCMS and its import-export module where import routes call bigUploadMiddleware without an early authorization callback. This allows unauthenticated requests to perform upload initialization, chunk storage, temporary processing, and attacker-declared cleanup before a later user check rejects the import. This uncontrolled resource consumption can lead to denial of service conditions. The vulnerability is addressed by introducing early authorization checks in ApostropheCMS 4.33.0 and import-export 3.7.0.
Potential Impact
An attacker can cause denial of service by consuming server resources through unauthenticated upload requests that trigger resource-intensive processing steps before authorization is enforced. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity reported. The vulnerability primarily affects availability.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade ApostropheCMS to version 4.33.0 or later and the import-export module to version 3.7.0 or later, where the vulnerability is fixed by adding early authorization checks to prevent unauthenticated resource consumption. No other mitigations are indicated.
