CVE-2026-113666: CWE-400: Uncontrolled Resource Consumption in apostrophecms apostrophe
Description
ApostropheCMS is an open-source Node.js content management system. Prior to 1.1.0 of db-connect and 4.33.0 of ApostropheCMS, an account with view-draft access can submit a projection exclusion path that traverses through a constructor prototype chain to a shared prototype member when a consumer uses a SQLite, PostgreSQL, or multipostgres adapter and has a matching document. Every editing role has view-draft access, while guestApiAccess broadens this prerequisite to any logged-in account. The unsetNestedField helper then deletes the shared runtime member, causing persistent process-wide integrity and availability effects; the default MongoDB adapter is not affected. This issue is fixed in db-connect 1.1.0 and ApostropheCMS 4.33.0.

Technical Analysis
ApostropheCMS versions before 4.33.0 and db-connect versions before 1.1.0 contain an uncontrolled resource consumption vulnerability (CWE-400) related to prototype pollution via projection exclusion paths. An attacker with view-draft access can exploit this by submitting a projection exclusion path that traverses the constructor prototype chain to a shared prototype member when using SQLite, PostgreSQL, or multipostgres adapters. The unsetNestedField helper deletes this shared runtime member, causing persistent integrity and availability issues at the process level. This vulnerability does not affect the default MongoDB adapter. The issue is resolved in db-connect 1.1.0 and ApostropheCMS 4.33.0.
Potential Impact
The vulnerability allows an attacker with view-draft access (which includes all editing roles and any logged-in user if guestApiAccess is enabled) to cause persistent process-wide integrity and availability problems by deleting shared runtime members. This can lead to denial of service or degraded system stability on affected database adapters (SQLite, PostgreSQL, multipostgres). There is no confidentiality impact reported. The default MongoDB adapter is not affected.
Mitigation Recommendations
This vulnerability is fixed in db-connect version 1.1.0 and ApostropheCMS version 4.33.0. Users should upgrade to these versions or later to remediate the issue. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory. Patch status is confirmed fixed in these versions.
