Technical Analysis

The vulnerability identified as CVE-2026-113789 affects the py-pdf pypdf library versions before 6.21.0. An attacker can create a specially crafted PDF file that, when processed to retrieve form fields, causes the application to consume excessive memory or experience long runtimes. This uncontrolled resource consumption can degrade application performance or lead to denial-of-service conditions. The issue is resolved in pypdf version 6.21.0.

Potential Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability can cause applications using affected versions of pypdf to consume large amounts of memory or experience significant delays during PDF form field extraction. This can degrade service availability or performance but does not directly lead to code execution or data compromise based on the provided data.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to pypdf version 6.21.0 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
