Published: 10/21/2026 (10/21/2026, 00:37:03 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: cthackers
Product: adm-zip

Description

adm-zip versions before 0.6.1 have a denial of service vulnerability due to an uncaught exception in the inflateAsync function when processing malformed ZIP files. This flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to crash the Node.js process by supplying a ZIP file with corrupted DEFLATE data, causing an uncatchable exception that terminates all in-flight requests.

Technical Analysis

The adm-zip library prior to version 0.6.1 contains a denial of service vulnerability (CVE-2026-114102) stemming from the inflateAsync function in methods/inflater.js lacking a zlib stream error listener. When processing ZIP files with corrupted DEFLATE data via functions such as readFileAsync, readAsTextAsync, extractAllToAsync, or getDataAsync, an uncatchable exception is triggered. This exception crashes the Node.js process, terminating all ongoing requests and causing a denial of service. The vulnerability is remotely exploitable without authentication by supplying a specially crafted malformed ZIP file.

Potential Impact

An attacker can cause a denial of service by crashing the Node.js process running adm-zip through a malformed ZIP file containing corrupted DEFLATE data. This results in termination of all in-flight requests, potentially disrupting service availability. No privilege or user interaction is required, and the attack surface includes any application using affected adm-zip versions to process ZIP files.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in adm-zip version 0.6.1. Users should upgrade to version 0.6.1 or later to remediate this vulnerability. Until upgraded, avoid processing untrusted ZIP files or implement additional validation to detect malformed archives before passing them to adm-zip.
