Published: 10/21/2026 (10/21/2026, 00:37:05 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: cthackers
Product: adm-zip

Description

adm-zip versions before 0.6.1 have a vulnerability where ZIP archives with duplicate entry names cause inconsistent entry resolution. This allows attackers to bypass content validation because getEntry() returns the last duplicate entry while extractAllTo() writes the first, potentially writing unvalidated data to disk.

Technical Analysis

The adm-zip library prior to version 0.6.1 contains an inconsistent entry resolution vulnerability. Specifically, when processing ZIP archives with duplicate entry names, the getEntry() function returns the last duplicate entry, but the extractAllTo() function writes the first duplicate entry to disk. This discrepancy allows attackers to bypass content validation checks by supplying crafted ZIP archives, resulting in unvalidated bytes being written to the filesystem.

Potential Impact

An attacker can craft malicious ZIP archives with duplicate entry names to bypass content validation mechanisms in adm-zip. This can lead to unvalidated or potentially malicious data being written to disk, which may facilitate further attacks depending on the context in which adm-zip is used. The CVSS 4.0 score of 8.2 (high severity) reflects the network attack vector, high attack complexity, and partial impact on integrity and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in adm-zip version 0.6.1. Users should upgrade to version 0.6.1 or later to resolve this vulnerability. No other mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor or advisory.
