Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: cthackers
Product: adm-zip

Description

CVE-2026-114103 is a medium severity vulnerability in adm-zip version 0.6.0 that allows attackers to bypass decompression bomb protections. The flaw exists in the asynchronous getDataAsync() method where attackers can craft ZIP entries with small declared sizes but highly compressed payloads, leading to uncontrolled memory exhaustion.

Technical Analysis

The adm-zip library version 0.6.0 contains a decompression bomb protection bypass vulnerability in the asynchronous getDataAsync() path within methods/inflater.js. Attackers can exploit this by creating ZIP entries that declare small sizes but contain highly compressed DEFLATE payloads, evading the maxOutputLength guard and causing excessive memory consumption during asynchronous decompression.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can lead to uncontrolled resource consumption (memory exhaustion) in applications using adm-zip asynchronously to read ZIP entries. This may degrade application performance or cause crashes due to memory exhaustion. There is no indication of privilege escalation or code execution.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix is currently documented. Users should monitor vendor advisories for updates. Until a fix is available, avoid processing untrusted ZIP files asynchronously with adm-zip 0.6.0 or implement additional application-level resource limits to mitigate memory exhaustion risks.
