CVE-2026-115395: Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling in NationalSecurityAgency ghidra
Description
Ghidra versions 10.3 up to but not including 12.2 have a vulnerability in the ThemeReader.readZipTheme() function where importing a crafted theme ZIP archive with many small files can exhaust disk inodes and space, causing a denial of service. This occurs due to resource allocation without limits or throttling during theme extraction. The vulnerability requires user interaction to import the malicious theme archive.

Technical Analysis
The National Security Agency's Ghidra software versions 10.3 through before 12.2 contain a vulnerability in the ThemeReader.readZipTheme() method. This vulnerability involves allocation of resources without limits or throttling when extracting theme ZIP entries to the images directory. An attacker can craft a theme archive containing a large number of small files, which when imported by a user, exhausts the host's inodes and disk space, resulting in a denial of service condition.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation leads to denial of service on the host system by exhausting disk space and inodes due to uncontrolled extraction of numerous files from a malicious theme archive. The attack requires user interaction to import the crafted theme, and no privilege escalation or code execution is indicated.
Mitigation Recommendations
No explicit patch or remediation details are provided. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, users should avoid importing untrusted theme archives to prevent potential denial of service.
