Until a fix is available, restrict contributor-level access where possible and monitor for updates from the vendor. Avoid granting unnecessary edit permissions to users who do not require them.
Description
The Content Egg plugin for WordPress versions up to and including 12.0.0 has a missing authorization check in the ajaxUpdateProducts() function. This flaw allows authenticated users with contributor-level access or higher to modify product data and update timestamps on posts they do not own, including administrator posts. The vulnerability arises because the function verifies a static nonce and a generic edit_posts capability but fails to perform a per-post capability check, unlike its sibling handler. This can lead to unauthorized modification of post meta data related to Content Egg products.
