AI-suggested

Users should monitor the vendor's advisory channels for updates. Until a fix is available, restrict user privileges and consider disabling the wpforo_action_profile_update functionality if feasible. Avoid granting users the ability to update profile fields related to group IDs. Review and tighten forum post approval policies to limit potential attackers from meeting the minimum post requirement for exploitation.

Description

The wpForo Forum WordPress plugin contains a privilege escalation vulnerability in versions up to and including 3.2.2. This flaw arises from improper privilege management in the handling of the secondary_groupids parameter during profile updates, allowing authenticated users with Subscriber-level access and at least three approved posts to escalate their privileges to Administrator. Exploitation requires bypassing a type-confusion guard flaw in the Members::update() function, enabling attackers to inject privileged group IDs and gain full administrative control over forum capabilities and content.
