Until a fix is released, users should avoid exposing file download parameters to untrusted users or implement application-level controls to detect and prevent triggering this condition.

Description

CVE-2026-120955 is a high-severity vulnerability in the MongoDB C Driver's GridFS file download API. The flaw arises because the driver does not properly check the result of an internal operation during file retrieval under certain error conditions. This can lead to a NULL pointer dereference, causing the process to terminate unexpectedly. An attacker who can influence file download parameters may trigger this condition, resulting in service unavailability for applications using the affected API.
