AI-suggested

AWS manages remediation for this cloud-hosted service. Users should delete any Rex-RO and Rex-RW SSM documents created from the example provisioning script in every account and region where they were deployed. This action mitigates the vulnerability by removing the exploitable documents. Since a patch is available and AWS is responsible for the cloud service, no further user action is required beyond deleting these documents.

Description

CVE-2026-122193 is a critical OS command injection vulnerability in the example SSM document provisioning script of AWS Trusted Remote Execution (REX) prior to 2026-07-28. An authenticated remote user with permission to invoke the Rex-RO or Rex-RW SSM documents can execute arbitrary commands as root on the managed instance, bypassing Cedar policy enforcement. AWS recommends deleting any Rex-RO and Rex-RW SSM documents created from the example script in all accounts and regions where they were run to remediate the issue.
