This vulnerability is present only in the example script provided in the Trusted Remote Execution setup guide and not in any shipped REX artifact. Users should avoid using the vulnerable example script as provided. Refer to the official AWS article for the most up-to-date and secure guidance on setting up Trusted Remote Execution.
Description
CVE-2026-122193 is an OS command injection vulnerability found in an example script provided in the Trusted Remote Execution (REX) setup guide. The example script creates AWS Systems Manager (SSM) documents that run scripts on managed instances. Improper handling of input parameters in the example allows a user with permission to invoke the SSM document to supply crafted input, potentially executing unintended OS commands outside the REX sandbox. This issue affects only the example script in the documentation and not any shipped REX artifact versions.
