Vendor/Project: IBM
Product: MQ

Description

IBM MQ 9.1.0.0 through 9.1.0.37 LTS, 9.2.0.0 through 9.2.0.43 LTS, 9.3.0.0 through 9.3.0.41 LTS, 9.3.0.0 through 9.3.5.1 CD, 9.4.0.0 through 9.4.0.25 LTS, 9.4.0.0 through 9.4.5.1 CD, and 10.0.0.0 could allow an attacker to perform JNDI injection attacks due to insufficient input validation, potentially leading to information disclosure or remote code execution.

Technical Analysis

IBM MQ versions 9.1.0.0 through 9.1.0.37 LTS, 9.2.0.0 through 9.2.0.43 LTS, 9.3.0.0 through 9.3.0.41 LTS, 9.3.0.0 through 9.3.5.1 CD, 9.4.0.0 through 9.4.0.25 LTS, 9.4.0.0 through 9.4.5.1 CD, and 10.0.0.0 contain a vulnerability classified as CWE-74 (Improper Neutralization of Special Elements in Output Used by a Downstream Component). This flaw allows attackers to perform JNDI injection attacks due to insufficient input validation, potentially resulting in information disclosure or remote code execution. The CVSS v3.1 base score is 8.1, indicating high severity with network attack vector, high attack complexity, no privileges required, no user interaction, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an unauthenticated attacker to perform JNDI injection attacks, potentially leading to disclosure of sensitive information or remote code execution on the affected IBM MQ systems. This compromises confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the IBM vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch links are provided in the available data. Until a patch is available, restrict network access to IBM MQ services and monitor for suspicious activity related to JNDI usage. Follow IBM's official guidance once published.
