Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-13173 is a missing authorization vulnerability (CWE-862) in the Eventin WordPress plugin prior to version 4.1.21. The plugin does not properly check whether the current user has the necessary permissions to edit other users when assigning roles and updating user metadata during the creation of speakers. As a result, users with contributor-level privileges or above can escalate their capabilities by modifying roles and metadata of other users, potentially leading to privilege escalation or unauthorized access.

Potential Impact

Users with contributor-level access or higher can modify roles and metadata of other users without proper authorization. This can lead to privilege escalation, unauthorized access, and potential compromise of user accounts within the affected WordPress site.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict contributor-level access and above to trusted users only and monitor user role changes closely.
