Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-14196 is an authorization bypass vulnerability in the WCFM Marketplace WordPress plugin prior to version 3.8.1. The vulnerability arises because the plugin fails to verify ownership of reviews before permitting actions such as unapproval or deletion. As a result, a malicious vendor can alter or delete reviews from other vendors' stores without proper authorization. This issue is classified under CWE-639, which relates to authorization bypass through user-controlled keys.

Potential Impact

An attacker with vendor-level access to the marketplace can modify or delete reviews of other vendors, potentially damaging their reputation and affecting customer trust. This could lead to unfair competitive advantages or loss of business for affected vendors. There is no indication of remote code execution or data leakage beyond review manipulation.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or remediation guidance has been provided yet. Users should monitor the vendor's advisory for updates and apply the official fix once available. Until then, restricting vendor permissions or disabling review modification features may reduce risk.
