Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-15231 is an authorization bypass vulnerability (CWE-639) in the Tag, Category, and Taxonomy Manager WordPress plugin prior to version 3.51.0. The plugin does not properly verify user permissions when accessing referenced posts, enabling contributor-level users to disclose data from private or draft posts they should not have access to. This issue arises from insufficient authorization checks on user-controlled keys used in tag, category, and taxonomy management functions.

Potential Impact

Users with contributor privileges can access and disclose data from private or draft posts they do not own. This leads to unauthorized data exposure within WordPress sites using the affected plugin versions.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict contributor-level user permissions or disable the plugin if possible to prevent unauthorized data disclosure.
