CVE-2026-15647: CWE-79 Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation ('Cross-site Scripting') in berocket Brands for WooCommerce

Published: 07/23/2026 (07/23/2026, 08:34:40 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: berocket
Product: Brands for WooCommerce

Description

The Brands for WooCommerce plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via 'br_brand_tooltip' Term Meta Field in all versions up to, and including, 3.8.8 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with custom-level access and above, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. Because the payload is stored in term meta rather than post content, the WordPress unfiltered_html capability exception does not apply, meaning Shop Manager-level users — who normally lack unfiltered_html — can fully exploit this vulnerability.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-15647 is a stored Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability (CWE-79) in the Brands for WooCommerce plugin for WordPress. The issue is caused by improper neutralization of input in the 'br_brand_tooltip' term meta field, allowing authenticated attackers with custom-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts. Unlike typical post content, the payload is stored in term meta, which does not trigger the WordPress unfiltered_html capability exception, enabling Shop Manager-level users to exploit the vulnerability fully. This vulnerability affects all versions up to and including 3.8.8.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows attackers with custom-level or higher access to inject persistent malicious scripts into the website. These scripts execute in the context of users visiting the injected pages, potentially leading to information disclosure or user session compromise. The vulnerability is notable because it permits exploitation by Shop Manager-level users who normally have restricted HTML capabilities, increasing the risk from lower-privileged insiders or compromised accounts.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict custom-level and Shop Manager user permissions to trusted individuals only. Monitor for plugin updates from the vendor that address this vulnerability and apply them promptly once released.
