Published: 08/04/2026 (08/04/2026, 05:05:34 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: LY Corporation
Product: LINE client for Android

Description

A code injection vulnerability (CWE-94) exists in the LINE Android app before version 26.7.2. The vulnerability arises because the profile rendering component does not properly validate or sandbox script content embedded in profile templates. An attacker who can place crafted content in a profile could cause code execution with the app's privileges when the profile is viewed. LY Corporation has deployed a server-side mitigation that protects even unpatched clients. The vulnerability has a high severity score of 8.7 CVSS 4.0.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-16881 is a code injection vulnerability in the LINE client for Android prior to version 26.7.2. It stems from insufficient validation and sandboxing of externally supplied script content embedded in user profile templates. This flaw allows an attacker capable of injecting crafted content into a profile to execute arbitrary code with the application's privileges when a victim views that profile. LY Corporation has implemented a server-side mitigation that protects existing Android clients regardless of update status. No official patch or remediation level is explicitly stated in the advisory, and no known exploits are reported in the wild.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation could lead to unintended code execution within the context of the LINE Android app, potentially allowing attackers to perform actions with the app's privileges. This could compromise user data or app integrity. However, a server-side mitigation is in place that protects even clients that have not been updated to the fixed version.

Mitigation Recommendations

A server-side mitigation has been deployed by LY Corporation that protects existing Android clients, including those not updated to version 26.7.2. Users are advised to update to version 26.7.2 or later when available. Since the vendor has implemented server-side protections, immediate urgent action may not be required, but updating the app remains best practice.
