Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-16968 is an information exposure vulnerability in the GeoDirectory WordPress plugin before version 2.8.168. The flaw arises because the user-search handler fails to restrict access to users authorized to list other users. As a result, any authenticated user with Contributor-level permissions or higher can retrieve email addresses of all registered users, including administrators. This exposure could facilitate targeted phishing or social engineering attacks but does not allow modification or denial of service. No official patch or remediation guidance is currently documented.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows unauthorized disclosure of email addresses of all registered users to any authenticated user with Contributor-level access or higher. This compromises user privacy and could enable further attacks such as phishing. There is no indication of impact on data integrity or availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict Contributor-level access and higher to trusted users only to minimize exposure risk.
