Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-17149 is a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability in the myCred plugin for WordPress, specifically in the 'wrapper' shortcode attribute. Due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping, authenticated attackers with contributor-level privileges or higher can inject arbitrary web scripts into pages. These scripts execute in the context of users who access the injected pages, potentially leading to session hijacking or other script-based attacks. The vulnerability affects all versions up to and including 3.2.4. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 6.4, indicating a medium severity with network attack vector, low attack complexity, and no user interaction required.

Potential Impact

An attacker with contributor-level access or higher can inject malicious scripts that execute in the browsers of users who visit the compromised pages. This can lead to the theft of user credentials, session tokens, or other sensitive information accessible via the browser context. The vulnerability does not affect availability but impacts confidentiality and integrity.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict contributor-level access to trusted users only and consider disabling or limiting use of the 'wrapper' shortcode attribute. Monitor for updates from the plugin vendor and apply patches promptly once released.
