Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-19423 is an improper privilege management vulnerability (CWE-269) in the Ultimate Member WordPress plugin before version 2.13.0. The plugin fails to properly validate submitted role selections during user registration when it cannot resolve the permitted roles for a profile form. Instead of checking against the form's allow-list, it validates against all registered site roles, enabling unauthenticated users to assign themselves arbitrary capabilities, including administrator-equivalent privileges.

Potential Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to escalate privileges by registering accounts with arbitrary roles, potentially gaining full administrative control over the affected WordPress site. This can lead to complete compromise of site confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict or disable user registrations through the Ultimate Member plugin forms to mitigate risk.
