Vendor/Project: Cisco
Product: Cisco Unity Connection

Description

CVE-2026-20034 is a high-severity vulnerability in Cisco Unity Connection's web-based management interface. It allows an authenticated remote attacker to execute arbitrary code as root by exploiting insufficient validation of user-supplied input via a crafted API request. Successful exploitation could lead to complete compromise of the affected device. The attacker must have valid user credentials to exploit this issue. The vulnerability affects multiple versions of Cisco Unity Connection, including 12.5(1) through 15SU3. No official patch or remediation guidance has been confirmed yet.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability in Cisco Unity Connection arises from improper validation of user input in the web management interface, enabling path traversal attacks using sequences like '.../...//'. An authenticated attacker can submit specially crafted API requests to execute arbitrary code with root privileges. The flaw affects a wide range of versions from 12.5(1) to 15SU3. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 8.8, indicating high severity with network attack vector, low attack complexity, required privileges, no user interaction, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. No vendor advisory or patch information is currently available to confirm remediation status.

Potential Impact

An attacker with valid credentials can exploit this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code as root on the affected device, potentially leading to full system compromise. This includes complete control over the device, impacting confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system and its data.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is released, restrict access to the management interface to trusted users only and monitor for suspicious activity. Since exploitation requires valid credentials, enforce strong authentication and credential management policies.
