AI-suggested
A security update fixing this race condition is available and should be applied. The Ubuntu advisory USN-8492-1 confirms that this and other kernel vulnerabilities have been addressed. Users should update their Linux kernel packages to the fixed versions provided by their distribution. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official patch.
Description
A race condition vulnerability in the Linux kernel's SMB client was resolved by separating certain bitfield flags into individual boolean fields to prevent concurrent update conflicts. The issue involved the shared use of a byte for multiple flags in struct cached_fid, which could lead to stale values being reintroduced during concurrent operations. This flaw was fixed by redesigning the data structure to avoid read-modify-write races.
