A fix is available and has been applied in Linux kernel versions 6.1.168, 6.6.131, 6.12.80, 6.18, and corresponding commit versions. Users and administrators should upgrade to these fixed versions to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated or required beyond applying the official patches.
Description
CVE-2026-23414 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's TLS implementation. It involves a memory leak caused by improper purging of the async_hold queue in the tls_decrypt_async_wait() function. This queue holds encrypted input socket buffers (skbs) while the AEAD engine processes their data. The flaw allows skbs to remain held and not freed under certain asynchronous decryption failure conditions, leading to resource leakage. The issue has been fixed by centralizing the purge of the async_hold queue within tls_decrypt_async_wait(), ensuring all callers properly release held skbs.
