Published: Mon May 04 2026 (05/04/2026, 14:48:29 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Apache Software Foundation
Product: Apache HTTP Server

Description

CVE-2026-29169 is a NULL pointer dereference vulnerability in the mod_dav_lock module of Apache HTTP Server versions 2. 4. 66 and earlier. This flaw may allow an attacker to crash the server by sending a specially crafted request. The mod_dav_lock module is not used internally by mod_dav or mod_dav_fs, and its primary known use was with mod_dav_svn from Apache Subversion versions earlier than 1. 2. 0. Users are advised to upgrade to Apache HTTP Server version 2. 4. 66 or later, or alternatively remove the mod_dav_lock module to mitigate the issue.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability involves a NULL pointer dereference in the mod_dav_lock module of Apache HTTP Server 2.4.66 and earlier. Exploitation can cause a server crash via a malicious request. The module is largely unused except by older versions of mod_dav_svn from Apache Subversion prior to 1.2.0. The issue is resolved in version 2.4.66, which either fixes the vulnerability or users can remove the mod_dav_lock module to avoid exposure.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in a denial of service condition by crashing the Apache HTTP Server. There is no indication of remote code execution or data compromise. The impact is limited to service disruption.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade to Apache HTTP Server version 2.4.66 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. Alternatively, removing the mod_dav_lock module from the server configuration will mitigate the issue. Since no official patch link or advisory was provided, users should verify the upgrade and module removal steps with the official Apache Software Foundation resources.
