Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-30512 describes a local privilege escalation vulnerability in the kiosk mode implementation of Scheidt & Bachmann entervo HMI prior to V2 R5 P0 M5. The vulnerability arises from the external PDF viewer used to display the application manual and its interaction with the Windows OS. An authenticated user with low privileges can abuse the print functionality of the PDF viewer to escape the kiosk restrictions and execute arbitrary commands with local administrator rights on the host system.

Potential Impact

An attacker with authenticated low-level access can escalate privileges to local administrator by escaping the kiosk environment through the PDF viewer's print functionality. This allows arbitrary command execution on the affected system with elevated privileges, potentially compromising system integrity and security.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to the kiosk mode environment to trusted users only and monitor for unusual activity involving the PDF viewer's print functionality.
