Source: CVE Database V5

Description

A double free vulnerability exists in librz/bin/format/le/le.c in the function le_load_fixup_record(). When processing malformed or circular LE fixup chains, relocation entries may be freed multiple times during error handling. A specially crafted LE binary can trigger heap corruption and cause the application to crash, resulting in a denial-of-service condition. An attacker with a crafted binary could cause a denial of service when the tool is integrated on a service pipeline.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability involves a double free error in the le_load_fixup_record() function within the librz library's LE binary format handler. When the function processes malformed or circular fixup chains, it may erroneously free relocation entries multiple times during error handling. This improper memory management can corrupt the heap and cause the application to crash, enabling denial-of-service attacks via crafted LE binaries.

Potential Impact

The impact is a denial-of-service condition caused by application crashes due to heap corruption triggered by double freeing memory. There is no indication of code execution or data leakage. The vulnerability affects applications using the vulnerable librz component to process LE binaries, particularly in service pipelines that handle such binaries.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, avoid processing untrusted or malformed LE binaries with the affected librz component to reduce risk.
