What to do

AI-suggested

Until an official fix is available, avoid using vulnerable versions of TinyZero or restrict access to the affected functionality. Review and sanitize all user inputs that may be passed to shell commands, especially file path parameters in the Hydra configuration framework. Consider running the TinyZero training process with minimal privileges to limit potential impact.

Description

CVE-2026-31226 is a critical command injection vulnerability in the TinyZero project's HDFS file operation utilities. It occurs due to unsafe use of os.system() with user-controlled input in the _copy() function, allowing an attacker to execute arbitrary OS commands remotely with the privileges of the TinyZero training process user. The vulnerability stems from improper input sanitization and direct interpolation of file paths into shell commands. No patch or official remediation has been confirmed at this time.
