AI-suggested
A fix is available in the Linux kernel as indicated by the fixed commit versions. Users should update to a kernel version including the patches identified by the fixed commit hashes. The fix ensures proper cleanup of handlers on probe failure, preventing use-after-free. No additional mitigation is required once the system is updated.
Description
CVE-2026-31426 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ACPI EC driver. It occurs when probe failure handling in acpi_ec_setup() does not properly clean up installed handlers, leading to a dangling pointer. This can cause kernel memory corruption when AML code accesses EC OpRegion fields, potentially resulting in system crashes or privilege escalation.
