Description
CVE-2026-31469 is a use-after-free (UAF) vulnerability in the Linux kernel's virtio_net driver. It occurs when the driver is configured with napi_tx disabled and the network device's IFF_XMIT_DST_RELEASE flag is cleared. Under these conditions, skb (socket buffer) destination references may be released prematurely, leading to a kernel paging request error when the stale reference is accessed. This issue can be triggered by configuring tc route filter rules and destroying network namespaces while packets remain pending in the transmit ring. The vulnerability has been fixed by explicitly releasing the destination reference before queuing the skb in virtio_net.
