A patch is available and has been applied in Linux kernel version 6.6 and associated commits. Users and administrators should upgrade to the fixed kernel version to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.

Description

CVE-2026-31525 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's BPF interpreter affecting signed 32-bit division and modulo operations. The issue arises from undefined behavior when using the abs() macro on the minimum signed 32-bit integer (INT_MIN), leading to incorrect calculations and a verifier/interpreter mismatch. This mismatch can be exploited to achieve out-of-bounds map value access. The vulnerability affects Linux kernel version 6.6 and has been fixed by introducing a safe abs_s32() function that correctly handles INT_MIN. A patch is available and has been applied in specific commits.
