AI-suggested

A fix for this vulnerability has been released in Linux kernel versions 5.15.203, 6.1.169, 6.6.135, 6.8, and corresponding commit hashes. Users and administrators should upgrade to these fixed versions or later to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official patch.

Description

CVE-2026-31533 is a critical use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's TLS encryption code. It occurs due to a double cleanup of internal structures when handling the -EBUSY error path in tls_do_encryption(), leading to memory corruption and potential use-after-free conditions. This flaw can cause kernel memory corruption and potentially allow attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause denial of service. The issue affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to the fixed releases. A patch has been released to correct the error handling and prevent double cleanup.
