A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux Azure kernel versions. The vendor advisory confirms that this vulnerability has been resolved in updated kernel releases. Users should upgrade to the fixed versions listed in the advisory to mitigate this issue.
Description
A buffer size vulnerability in the Linux kernel's AF_RXRPC procfs helpers was resolved. The procfs helpers format socket addresses into fixed 50-byte buffers using "%pISpc", which is insufficient for the longest IPv6-with-port addresses, causing potential buffer overflow. The issue arises from the formatting of ISATAP IPv6 addresses, which can exceed the buffer size. This vulnerability affects specific Linux Azure kernel versions and has a CVSS score of 7.8. A patch is available to resize the buffers and switch to safer formatting functions.
