Description

CVE-2026-31648 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's memory management subsystem where an integer overflow in the calculation of nr_pages in filemap_map_pages() can cause mapping beyond the bounds of a large folio. This leads to corruption of page state, such as inconsistent mapcount and refcount values, resulting in kernel crashes. The issue arises from a race condition involving concurrent file size truncation and page mapping. The vulnerability affects certain Linux kernel versions and has been fixed in later releases.
