Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CVE-2026-33450) affects the Secure Access MacOS client from Absolute Software before version 14.50. It is an out-of-bounds read (CWE-125) triggered when the client processes malformed packets sent by a server controlled by an attacker. Successful exploitation results in denial of service by crashing the client. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 2.3, reflecting low severity due to high attack complexity and no privileges required. No patch or official fix has been documented yet.

Potential Impact

The impact is limited to denial of service on the Secure Access MacOS client when connecting to a malicious or compromised server. There is no indication of data disclosure, privilege escalation, or code execution. The vulnerability requires the attacker to control a server that the client connects to and has a high attack complexity, reducing the likelihood of exploitation.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, avoid connecting the Secure Access MacOS client to untrusted or potentially malicious servers to mitigate risk. Monitor vendor communications for updates on patches or official mitigations.
