VulnerabilityCVE-2026-35171cvecve-2026-35171cwe-94cwe-502
Published: Mon Apr 06 2026 (04/06/2026, 17:45:45 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: kedro-org
Product: kedro

Description

Kedro versions prior to 1. 3. 0 contain a critical remote code execution vulnerability due to unsafe loading of a logging configuration file specified by the KEDRO_LOGGING_CONFIG environment variable. The logging configuration supports a special key that allows arbitrary callable instantiation, enabling attackers to execute system commands during application startup. This vulnerability is fixed in Kedro version 1. 3. 0.

Technical Analysis

Kedro before version 1.3.0 allows the logging configuration file path to be set via the KEDRO_LOGGING_CONFIG environment variable without validation. The logging configuration schema supports a special () key that enables arbitrary callable instantiation. Because Kedro uses logging.config.dictConfig() with user-controlled input, an attacker can exploit this to execute arbitrary system commands during application startup, resulting in a critical remote code execution vulnerability. This issue is addressed in version 1.3.0.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary system commands remotely during application startup, leading to full compromise of the affected system. The CVSS score of 9.8 reflects the critical impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Kedro to version 1.3.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. Until upgrading, avoid setting the KEDRO_LOGGING_CONFIG environment variable to untrusted or user-controlled paths. Patch status is confirmed fixed in version 1.3.0.
