Medium
Published: 07/30/2026 (07/30/2026, 15:31:52 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Tigera
Product: Calico

Description

CVE-2026-41187 is a medium severity vulnerability in Tigera Calico 3.32.0 involving improper authorization. The issue arises because the Delete override on NetworkPolicy, GlobalNetworkPolicy, and their staged variants is not invoked for DeleteCollection requests. This allows users with deletecollection or wildcard delete permissions on tier-scoped policy resources to bulk-delete policies in tiers where they do not have explicit rights, breaking the tier authorization boundary.

Technical Analysis

In Tigera Calico version 3.32.0, the apiserver enforces authorization on tier-scoped resources via AuthorizeTierOperation. However, the Delete override for NetworkPolicy, GlobalNetworkPolicy, and their staged variants is not triggered during DeleteCollection requests. Consequently, a user possessing the deletecollection verb or wildcard delete permissions on tier-scoped policy resources can perform bulk deletions of policies across tiers without proper authorization checks, violating the intended tier authorization boundaries. This is classified under CWE-285 (Improper Authorization) and CWE-863 (Incorrect Authorization).

Potential Impact

An attacker or user with deletecollection or wildcard delete permissions on tier-scoped policy resources can delete multiple policies in tiers they are not authorized to manage. This breaks the tier authorization boundary, potentially disrupting network policy enforcement and security controls within the affected Calico deployment. The vulnerability has a CVSS 4.0 base score of 6.2, indicating a medium severity impact with network attack vector, low complexity, and no user interaction required.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict deletecollection and wildcard delete permissions on tier-scoped policy resources to trusted users only. Monitor for any unusual bulk deletion activity related to network policies. Follow Tigera's official advisories for updates on patches or workarounds.
