Product: ci4ms

Description

CVE-2026-41202 is a critical path traversal vulnerability in ci4ms, a CodeIgniter 4-based CMS. Versions prior to 0.31.5.0 allow an authenticated backend user with backup create permission to upload crafted ZIP archives that can write files to arbitrary filesystem locations. This can lead to remote code execution by placing malicious PHP files under the public web root. The vulnerability has been patched in version 0.31.5.0.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability exists in the Backup::restore functionality of ci4ms before version 0.31.5.0. It fails to validate ZIP archive entry names, enabling a path traversal (Zip Slip) attack. An authenticated user with backup create permission can exploit this to write files outside the intended directory, including the public web root, resulting in remote code execution. The issue is classified as CWE-22 (Improper Limitation of a Pathname to a Restricted Directory).

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an authenticated user with limited privileges to execute arbitrary code on the server by uploading malicious PHP files. This can lead to full system compromise, data breach, or service disruption. The CVSS 4.0 score is 9.4 (critical), reflecting high attack vector and impact metrics.

Mitigation Recommendations

This vulnerability is patched in ci4ms version 0.31.5.0. Users should upgrade to version 0.31.5.0 or later to remediate the issue. No other official remediation or temporary fixes are documented. Patch status is confirmed by the vendor's versioning information.
