VulnerabilityCVE-2026-41202cvecve-2026-41202cwe-22
Published: Thu May 07 2026 (05/07/2026, 03:18:00 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: ci4-cms-erp
Product: ci4ms

Description

CI4MS versions prior to 0. 31. 5. 0 contain a critical path traversal vulnerability in the Backup::restore functionality. An authenticated backend user with backup create permission can upload crafted ZIP archives that, when extracted, write files to arbitrary filesystem locations. This allows remote code execution by placing a PHP file under the public web root. The vulnerability has been fixed in version 0. 31. 5. 0.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability (CVE-2026-41202) in ci4ms, a CodeIgniter 4-based CMS, arises from improper validation of ZIP archive entry names during the restore process. This path traversal (CWE-22) flaw enables an authenticated user with limited privileges to perform a Zip Slip attack, writing files outside intended directories and achieving remote code execution. The issue affects all versions before 0.31.5.0 and has been patched in that release.

Potential Impact

Exploitation allows an authenticated backend user with backup create permission to write arbitrary files anywhere on the filesystem, including the public web root. This can lead to remote code execution, compromising the server and potentially the entire application environment. The CVSS 4.0 score is 9.4 (critical), reflecting high attack vector, low complexity, no user interaction, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade ci4ms to version 0.31.5.0 or later, where this vulnerability is patched. No other mitigation is indicated or required as the fix addresses the root cause by validating ZIP entry names during extraction.
